            A Hand phone is a telecommunication hardware which makes it possible for us to communicate with other people and it is also portable or easy to carry everywhere. Nowadays hand phone technology is developing rapidly and hand phones are not used for communicating only but also for streaming and accessing the internet. Consequently many brands and operating systems for hand phones have appeared and they are competing against each other. For example: Android Operating System and Blackberry Operating System or Research In Motion (RIM). They become new idols in the market. Both of them have their own specialization. But in my opinion, Android Operating System is better than Blackberry Operating System in performance, interface, application, and price.

Performance of Android Operating System is faster than Blackberry Operating System. The process of booting in Android Operating system just takes less than one minute. On the other hand, the process of booting in Blackberry need longer duration, it takes three to eight minutes. We can see the line of booting moving slowly and when we use the application of Blackberry Operating System sometimes the phone hangs. When the phone hangs, there is clock icon on screen which means that the program or application is still running or not responding. The other performance that Android is able to do and Blackberry unable to do is multitasking – what is multitasking? That is running some applications at the same time, such as; chatting, listening to music, and browsing.

Android’s interface makes the user happy. Most of them come in hand with touch screens. There are many advantages of touch screen in Android such as; the touching effects in sidebar of menus. Its theme looks unique, smooth, elegant, and interesting. And Android flexibility lets you can personalize the look and behavior of your device fully by your self - configure your home screen with the widgets you use most or set up screens specific to what is must important to you – such as; social networks, text messages, contacts, calendars, emails, RSS, and etc. In contrast, Blackberry’s interface looks very rigid because it doesn’t have any effects, and no variant symbol. Although there are shortcut in home screen as same as with Android, but we can not personalized it by our self. Nowadays, Blackberry also released Blackberry storm which is in touch screen mode. Its simple navigation, synchronized calendars and lesser applications attract many users.

Android Operating System is more superior than Blackberry Operating system in application. Following the development of technology, Android develops rapidly. Because of Android is open source so it can be develop by people. Nowadays, Android’s application is developed by Google and the other developers. Android has many sub types and their own specialization for each type – such as; 2.3 Gingerbread and 3.0 Honeycomb. There are 500.000 games and android applications which are ready for download at no charge by the users of android. On the other hand Blackberry’s application is fewer than Android Operating System. It is about 45.000 applications. Because Blackberry Operating System is closed, so we have to pay for the application before we download it. Some Parts that developing by blackberry are emails, social networks, and the special ones - BBM (Blackberry Messenger). It evidence if blackberry give more priority for the communicating application.

A hand phone with Android Operating System is more reasonable in price than hand phone with Blackberry Operating System. Android Operating System has many variations in prices. From the other data which taken from Wowkeren.com, the graphic of selling hand-phone with Android Operating System in the market is higher than Blackberry with result: Android in the first position, and Blackberry in the forth position. After doing some research in people about Android and Blackberry, people said that they prefer hand-phone with Android OS more than hand-phone with Blackberry OS is because Android is cheaper and have more capability than Blackberry.

The Android is clearly a user friendly, multitasking and easily customizable device. On the other hand Blackberry Operating system gives priority to communicating application. In contrast, Android is primarily developed for touch screen interfaces. Let’s face it, Blackberry Operating System suitable for business and consumer standard device whereas Android is more app centric.
